The wastewater treatment industry loves a good name, which results in a lot of confusion about what something is. When we talk about a home sewage system (as opposed to a septic tank), you can also find them called the following:
We're not surprised if you are confused about home sewage systems. Our sewage technicians are highly trained and will guide you throughout the entire process.
Sewage treatment systems are divided into 3 stages, each equally important.
The primary chamber is the first step in sewage treatment. This chamber holds all the grey and black water in the house and allows it to settle until the heavier materials sink to the bottom, and the lighter ones float to the top. After this process, the remaining water (effluent), which has been collected in the tank, is then pumped into a secondary chamber known as the pre-treatment chamber.
The second chamber is where wastewater is exposed to anaerobic bacteria that feed on pollutants in the water. This starts the breakdown of the water.
The Aeration chamber is the second step in the treatment. The aeration chamber is a chamber that creates tiny bubbles to agitate the chamber and allow oxygen to enter the water. This allows aerobic bacteria to rapidly grow. This bacteria can double in number when it has a food source, such as organic waste. It is also faster than anaerobic bacteria at breaking down organic matter.
In the third stage, the wastewater settles. At this stage, the water in the chamber is lighter and less dense compared to when it first entered the system. If not disturbed, the aerobic bacteria will settle at the bottom. At this point, chlorine or UV light is introduced to the water in order to eliminate any unwanted bacteria.
In the fourth and final step, wastewater will be pumped from your irrigation system or hose onto your lawn or garden.
The home sewage treatment plant (HSTP) is a compact, efficient unit that processes greywater and blackwater. The system is similar to the community-based sewage treatment systems, but it's scaled down for a small home or business.
The household sewage plant system collects wastewater in a large container made of concrete, fibreglass or plastic. This container is airtight.
The HSTP is based on a principle that harnesses bacteria to treat wastewater efficiently without the use of chemical agents. Greywater and blackwater are separated into compartments to allow for the separation of solids. Anaerobic bacteria can then be introduced, which flourish without oxygen. This procedure along with aeration makes the water safe to use for garden irrigation and other tasks without harming you or anyone else.
